Welcome to our

'ROSS RABBITS'

website

Hobbyist breeder of companion pet rabbits since 1972

Young blue mini lop girlOur main objective with our website is to share our hobby of the last 35+ years with like-minded bunny-owners and promote general bunny-care and welfare.

This site gives information and advice about adopting and caring for pet rabbits, as companion rabbits.  Please browse through the pages to read about what to look for when adopting your new furry friend, choosing your new pet bunny, housing, handling, feeding, grooming, house/litter-training and an introduction to general rabbit healthcare.

We sometimes have some of our bunnies' families available for adoption by loving pet homes only - and these can be seen on the Rabbit-Sales page.

We hope you enjoy your visit!

Giving Big Brittany a Big Cuddle - agouti French Lop girlNewborn French Lop girlROSS RABBITS is the name of our personal hobby website - and is not a business or trading name.  We're just bunny-enthusiasts following our long-term hobby which began in 1972.  Similarly, we don't have a 'shop' or any commercial premises - the bunnies are our pampered family pets living in our home and garden.

However, in recognition of the growing demand for toys and treats for bunnies, on 1 April 2006,  we opened a small online shop stocking a wide range of toys, treats, gifts, accessories and novelties along with a full range of bunny supplies.  In order to keep it completely separate from our pets and hobby website, the shop is located on a separate website and can be visited by clicking HERE

Back to our bunnies......  We are not a large commercial or impersonal 'stud' but a very small, registered, back garden French Lop, Dwarf Lop and Mini Lop breeding stud with our over-fussed and pampered pet bunnies whom we've bred and raised ourselves.  These produce equally pampered babies, some of whom are adopted as companion pets who move into loving homes across the UK.

We don't breed for income or profit, nor do we breed specifically to sell - indeed several of our bunnies are now elderly and retired 'geriatrics' who remain our pets.

Following taking early retirement in 1995, our lives are now totally dedicated to our furry family and we can provide them with constant care and attention - all day, every day and overnight, too!

We aim to produce quality, pedigree companion pets - with personality!

Young fawn mini lopWe have been breeding as a hobby since the early 1970's and have continued our lines by retaining some girls from each litter produced and the occasional boy who remains a pet only as we do not in-breed).  We have our own 'outside' boys but also use a few, very carefully-selected 'stud bucks' in order to introduce new blood into our furry family.  We're not actually a large 'stud' and have only 20 bunnies which includes our rehoming buns, a few rescue bunnies who needed a lot of TLC when they arrived, and our much-loved retired 'bunny-geriatrics' who spend their leisurely days relaxing in the garden enjoying a pension of broccoli and carrot tops.

We're very proud of our bunnies and their friendly characters, loving  personalities and superb temperaments.  All are noticeably cuddly, tame and friendly, and it's on this that we've built and developed our national reputation over the years.

We keep three breeds:  Mini-Lops where we're aiming for both solid blue and harlequin pattern, Dwarf Lops where we're aiming for blue plus a few harlequin during 2007-8 then, leaping up to the other end of the sizeFussing Claudia - our REW French Lop girl (who thinks she's a cuddly toy!) spectrum, we have some of the wonderful 'gentle giants' of the rabbit world - our much-loved, irresistible, French Lops - who are undoubtedly my personal favourite breed.   When space permits, we'd love to start a line of Continental Giants but this won't be until at least 2008-9 or later.

Although we have a range of colours, we specialise in blue  and blue-butterfly French Lops and during 2004 worked on introducing fawn into our bunny-family for 2005.  In 2006-7 we hope to extend this to add orange and possibly fawn and orange butterfly-pattern from 2007-8.

Rosie, agouti French Lop girl, enjoying a cuddle at 10 weeks old.We have some very 'high-quality' pedigree bunnies in our family, whom we're very proud of.  We are members of several clubs and do a (very!) little showing when time permits.  We are also members of the Rabbit Welfare Association which aims to improve the quality of life of pet rabbits in the UK - objectives which we endorse entirely.

Most of our bunnies live outdoors but we always have at least one house-bunny to share our lives with - dwarf lop, Maddie and her twin daughters, Una and Inga.  Our previous boy was our French Lop boy, Giles, who takes charge of our lounge and has the free run of the entire house!   He's an especially licky bunny and a definite 'mummy's boy' with a passion for licking his mum's hands and feet!

All of our bunnies (yes, they are 'bunnies' to us, not rabbits!) are  kept as pets who enjoy a life filled with cuddles and snuggles.   Imogen, our blue British Giant lady
